Botetourt County Relay for Life – Botetourt County’s Relay for Life returns to the Buchanan Town Park located at 485 Lowe Street on Friday, May 18th with the Opening Ceremony starting at 7:00pm, and the Closing Ceremony starting at 6:45 am on Saturday, May 19th. Even if you are not a member of a Relay for Life team, the American Cancer Society invites you to come and enjoy this fun filled event and support others in the fight against cancer.
Join us as the community joins forces to raise money to fight cancer during this year’s walkathon. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out and take turns walking or running around the track. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight.

Bargains, Bargains, Bargains! Explore Buchanan’s Main Street and side streets for treasures this Saturday, June 2nd as home owners, churches and civic organizations hold yard sales throughout Town. Yard sales will be set up on Main Street in the downtown area as well special buys from the Merchant Sidewalk Sale. Yard Sales will extend past the downtown into the surrounding residential neighborhoods, so, keep your eyes searching for directional signs.

The Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries invite you and your family to join in the fun during this year’s Fishing Carnival scheduled on Saturday, June 2nd. Activities will take place on the Buchanan Town Park located at 485 Lowe Street. Area kids aged 15 and under are invited to enjoy an afternoon of fishing and games. Activities begin at 9:00 am and run through 1:00pm. Voted one of the best community events in the Best of Botetourt, the event provides family fun. Prizes and fishing will rule the day. Registration is the day of the event at the Town Park. For information call 473-8326.

Enjoy displays of dozens and Fire and Rescue Vehicles as they make thier way up Main Street joined by marching units, bands, floats and displays by local civic organizations. Join the Town of Buchanan as we celebrate the Town’s 200th birthday with a “Bicentennial Picnic on the Park.”
Activities are scheduled from 1:00pm through 4:00pm.
Children are invited to kick of the afternoon’s acitivites during a Decorated Bicycle Parade. Kids, decorate your bicycle in a bicentennial theme for an opportunity to win prizes.
Games begin at 2:00pm and run through 4:00pm. Activities include Volley Ball, Sack Races, Egg and Spoon Races, Biggest Bubble Contest, Parachute Games, and more.
Civic Groups are invited to set up displays highlighting thier activities and efforts to attract new members.
Bring a picnic, or, purchase food from one of the Civic Organizations set up.
At 3:00pm cake will be served and activities will culminate with a free concert.

Step back in time as you stroll through dozens of Antique and Classic Autos on display, enjoy a DJ playing 50’s and Beach Music, or, being serenaded by a strolling barbershop quartet. Have some fun, get your portrait drawn by a caricature artist, enjoy a ride in a carriage along Main Street then enjoy some good old fashioned food served in a nostalgic setting.
